Don't believe everything you read about quality. I bought this umbrella for it's "supposed quality". I have kept this umbrella inside ,mostly to help sustain the life of the mechanical parts,protect it from wind damage from storms, and also to avoid fading, even though it has the Sunbrella fabric. The umbrella looks nice as it should for this price. With only about 100-150 total crankings, the crank mechanism is failing. There is only a "1 year warranty" on the mechanics. I HAD TO CALL CALIFORNIA UMBRELLA AND ASK ABOUT A REPLACEMENT SINCE AMAZON REPLACE RETURN POLICY EXPIRED. THE CALIFORNIA UMBRELLA CUSTOMER SERVICE REP WAS PRETTY RUDE AND SAID SHE HAD CALLS WAITING IN THE CUE, AND OFFERED ME A LINK TO PURCHASE ANOTHER CRANK PART. In another words if you use it often, after the first year it could fail. I have not subjected this umbrella to normal conditions, just the opposite, I've cared for it like an infant keeping it indoors mostly while not in use. It's inside as I write this review.. Additionally the crank will just keep on cranking past tilt to then wind back down cranking in the same direction. POOR DESIGN. Probably the reason for failure. Like I stated it has been kept inside unless I'm using it. I maybe left out overnight a total of 30-40 times over 2 years, never in winter. Additionally as another reviewer writes, "the fabric often comes out of the ribs when you crank it up" No solution other than self modification or reinserting the fabric after you have it half way cranked up. My brand new looking umbrella is pretty much a failing piece of junk that CALIFORNIA UMBRELLA A 50 YEAR OLD COMPANY THAT BOASTS OF QUALITY IS UNWILLING TO REPLACE AT THEIR COST. BUYER BEWARE. So...save your money and buy a cheap one every other year for $50.
