Ordered a couple of these. Finally arrived with a card providing user instructions. Looks like something you'd hang on a hotel room door as a "Do Not Disturb" sign. Do yourself a favor and read this. If you didn't get it (my first one did not arrive with these instructions) here is how it reads:USER INSTRUCTIONS(1) Before cranking open your umbrella, gently pull apart the ribs and make sure they are separated into their natural position.(2) Umbrella must be standing in a straight position before cranking open with the handle. Crank the umbrella CLOCKWISE to an open position, stop before the hub reaches the stopper.CAUTION:DO NOT OVERCRANK THE HANDLE!!(3) To tilt the Umbrella Canopy, Use the Collar housing above the Crank open handle. Turn it CLOCKWISE around the pole to tilt the Canopy, and stop at the desired degree of tilt. Turn Housing COUNTER CLOCKWISE to return Canopy to its straight position.(4) To Close Umbrella, MAKE SURE THE CANOPY IS NOT TILTED, then Crank the handle COUNTER CLOCKWISE to close the Umbrella. The last bit was confusing. In regards to tilting the umbrella, directly above the crank handle there's a plastic nub. This nub is round with notches for grip. Turn this "nub" CLOCKWISE to tilt the umbrella. The umbrella only tilts in one direction, but the pole has some 3 holes where you can rotate the umbrella so that the tilt is in the direction you need it to be.Hope this helps someone. The pole's diameter is a standard size. Meaning it is equal to every umbrella I've ever seen. It will fit into a standard table hole and a standard stand (stands come with sizers. Great umbrella.i searched long and hard for a 11ft umbrella that has a tilt and this one is a greta buy for the price. The color is beautiful and the material is really nice too. I will suggest that you need a heavy base or else when you tilt this umbrella and the wind comes through it will fly away or crack or something! We had it on a basic 40lb base probably and whenever the wind hit not even strong the umbrella would start to pull from the base and if its tilted forget it it will fall over or fly off! We ended buying a 110lb base from home depot for like $75 bucks worth it and it keeps the sucker in place so now i can calm down when its windy and im not scared its going to fly off or hit someone in the head!We needed to replace the previous 9 ft umbrellas with bigger 11 ft umbrellas and a fabric that will last in intense sunlight.I feel like these umbrellas are a great value. Two vents, extra coverage, a very easy crank to open and close, and the tilt mechanism is very easy to work.So far, so good! After two seasons the plastic roller at the top wore out and would not function properly anymore, including not being able to ratchet down.We wrote the company two emails about a fix for the umbrella and received no reply whatsoever. The cheap plastic roller is a design flaw and will not last.I took the thing apart, untied the string and pulled it to the outside, bought a pulley and cleat, drilled a hole up top for attachment and now just manually pull it up and down. Works very well. The job was not easy, since the small parts in the hand ratchet have to be carefully taken apart and reassembled again. If I had to buy an umbrella again, I would never go with an inside string which will eventually be a problem. And, if there is any wind at all, the tilt acts like a sail on a boat....totally useless. I will go with a manual push or pull up and no tilt.I bought this from Warehouse Deals so paid half, which is still too much for this item. I feel sorry for those who pay full price for this piece of junk.We have two of these now (2 seasons) and have had no trouble yet. This is a nice looking Umbrella when new however the fabric quickly fades and the top pulley roller is cheap and after a few opening and closing it requires manual force to get it to close and the pulley roller is broken. Also the tines (the rods that hold the fabric) are easily bent and when trying to correct they snap. Guess what no replacement parts. I give it a three Star because some of these issues could have been avoided by me like fewer retractions and following the weather more closely (Wind) however it would be nice if replacement parts where available.I LOVE IT. 11 FT IS RATHER LARGE BUT I USED IT ON EASTER AND THERE WASN'T A PERSON SITTING THAT WASN'T BEING BLOCKED BY THE SUN. LOOKING FORWARD TO WARMER WEATHER. HERE IN WISC STILL BEEN RATHER COLD. I'M GOING ON LINE NOW TO ORDER A COVER. HATE TO SEE IT GET DIRTY. IT IS REALLY WATER REPELANT AS THE WATER JUST BEADS UP BUT IT IS TO NICE TO WEATHER THE WEATHER. GREAT BUY FOR PRICE. LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING USE OUT OF IT.Very impressed with this umbrella. I had an 11' from another manufacturer, the splines were fiberglass and these are metal and much sturdier. The adjustable turn on the umbrella to change the tilt is awesome!!
